What To Do If You Have a Safeguarding Concern

Guidance for Families in East Sussex

At MV Funtastic, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. If you ever have a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child — whether it relates to our setting, your own child, or a child in the community — it’s important to know the right steps to take.

1. Speak to a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

If your concern is related to MV Funtastic, please speak to one of our trained DSLs as soon as possible. Our DSL-trained staff include:

  • Vicky
  • Sandra

2. Contact Your Child’s School or Setting

If the concern relates to a child outside of MV Funtastic, you can also speak to the DSL at the child’s school, nursery or childcare setting.

3. Contact East Sussex Children’s Services

If you believe a child may be at risk of harm, or you feel uncomfortable speaking to a setting directly, you can contact East Sussex Children’s Services. You can find their up-to-date contact numbers on the East Sussex County Council website under the Children’s Services or Safeguarding section.

4. Contact SPOA (Single Point of Advice)

SPOA is the central point for reporting concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing in East Sussex. Their current contact details are also available on the East Sussex County Council website under the “SPOA” or “Report a Concern” pages.

5. If a Child Is in Immediate Danger

If you believe a child is at immediate risk of harm, contact emergency services right away.

6. You Can Ask for Advice Without Making a Formal Report

If you’re unsure whether something is a safeguarding concern, you can still speak to a DSL or Children’s Services for guidance. You don’t need proof — sharing a worry is enough.
